Getting in
How to join
Five steps, and the launcher does most of them. Budget half an hour for the first install, mostly download time.
Before you start
- To be 18 or over. Silt Strider is an 18+ server and there are no exceptions. See the rules.
- A legitimate copy of Morrowind, Game of the Year edition. Steam or GOG both work. We do not distribute the game itself, only the mods and the client.
- Windows. The launcher is Windows only right now. Linux is in-progress (including Steam Deck!)
- Roughly 40 GB free for the required tier, more if you take the overhaul mods.
- A Discord account. Downloads are gated behind server membership, see step 1.
The steps
-
Join the Discord
Come into the server Discord and read the Server Guide and installation channel.
-
Download the launcher
The current build is pinned in the Discord in the installation instructions. It is a single executable. Put it somewhere with room to work, such as its own folder on a drive with space, and not inside your Morrowind install.
-
Point it at your Morrowind install
On first run the launcher asks where Morrowind lives. It reads the original data files from there and leaves them alone. Nothing is written back into your Steam or GOG copy.
-
Let it pull the pack
You sign in with Discord once, the launcher checks your role, and then it downloads the mod pack and the TES3MP client. This is the slow part. The required tier is the default; the overhaul tier is opt-in and much heavier.
-
Connect
Hit play. The launcher points the client at the live server for you, so there is no address to type in under normal circumstances.
Server addresses
You should not normally need these, since the launcher fills them in. They are here for when something goes wrong and someone in Discord asks you to connect by hand.
- Live
- play.siltstrider.com
- Development
- dev.siltstrider.com
If it goes wrong
The launcher says you are not authorised
That means Discord did not properly authenticate you. Check you are still in the server, and if you are, please post in the technical-help channel.
The download keeps stopping
Large transfers over a flaky connection are the usual cause. The launcher can resume, so start it again rather than deleting anything. If it fails in the same place repeatedly, say so in Discord with the file it stopped on.
It launches but you cannot connect
Usually a version mismatch after a pack update. Run the launcher again and let it update before connecting. If it still fails, the server may simply be down, which gets announced in Discord.
